What its costs to get an online degree, and can I get it free or cheap? Today cost depends on the program and the college or university you choose and which degree level you are going for ( associate degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, MBA, doctorate or a specialized certificate ). In some cases, you may need to take part of your classes or program on campus.
You want to go to an online college or school that will get you a degree that is widely accepted by any employer. Making sure the school is accredited is an important factor and this can be verified through the U.S. Department of Education. If the school is not a bricks and mortal school with a well-known name such as the University of Washington for example, it should be verified. The lesser-known schools and online schools that don’t have a campus should definitely be checked out to make sure they are accredited.
So the choice of schools will account for the most significant cost. The larger more established universities cost more in tuition. The schools with lesser-known names may cost less but employers may not recognize the name and that may or may not be important to them.
However getting the knowledge an employer needs may be what a prospective employer wants the most. If you’re in the business field it may be easier to get a job with an online degree from a lesser-known school. Whereas for a teaching or education degree it may be important to go to a recognized school with the best reputation.
The total cost for an online degree can even be free by applying for and v. Plenty of these go unawarded every year. Without scholarships and grants, you can get a degree cheap — for as little as $3000 or so and if you go to the top-notch, best colleges or universities, it could cost upwards of $125,000. A lot depends on what field you choose too, of course. There is plenty of federal and other financial aid available for online degrees too
Tuition through online schools that have no campus will cost you far less and will be cheap compared to the big names. Makes sure you check them out for accreditation and avoid any that don’t have happy graduates who are actively working with their online degrees. Make sure you can transfer your credits out to other big name universities – check this out before you sign up. Make sure to do plenty of research so you know you’re getting the best education from the best online college, as cheap as possible.
